　　There are certain considerations or factors that everyone takes into account in a relationship. Among them，honesty，which means telling the truth，is highly valued in society. Some people claim that always telling the truth is the most important consideration in any relationship between people. However it is not always the case that revealing the truth benefits people，or helps in building up a good relationship. In my opinion，honesty is not the first concern and the most important consideration in a relationship.

　　While the notion of truth seems pleasant，at times it does harm to people，bringing embarrassment，sorrow and discomfort. Under these circumstances，it is better not to express our real thoughts and feelings or to tell the truth. Therefore，whether we or not we should tell the truth is determined by circumstances. That is to say，truth is not always required in the relationship between people. During the Second World War，for instance，German families hiding Jews from the Nazis in their households necessarily lied to S.S. officers if and when asked if they were either Jewish sympathizers or concealing enemies of the state. To tell the truth，obviously，would result in harm to others- namely the hidden Jews-and themselves (as the Nazis would punish the Germans as sympathizers). Telling the truth，under such circumstances，would result in senseless violence to people powerless to defend themselves. To lie，as a result，would not only be the most rational decision，but a humane one.

　　I am not denying the importance of honesty and frankness. A frank person is likely to be thought as reliable so that people would like to make friends with him. Cheating out of malice should be condemned. However，it does not mean that people should always tell the truth. As is stated above，circumstances determine whether or not we should reveal the truth.

　　In conclusion，all decisions depend on the specific contexts in which they must be made and the rule does not omit the exercise of honesty. In this case，it is more important to have the wisdom of knowing whether the truth should be told，rather than simply speaking out the facts.
